Berry/Oak Hill History
Berry College will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2027, and its legacy began with founder, Martha Berry. Join Allison Moore, Director of Community Engagement & Education at Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum, as we walk north on the Mt. Berry Trail toward Martha Berry's home, Oak Hill, and learn about the origins of the educational pioneer. Along the way, discover how Berry’s early life shaped her educational philosophy and the pivotal experiences that led to her founding the college we know today.
We will meet at the Mount Berry Trailhead off Coligni Way, just past the post office.
This will be a relaxed, out-and-back walk along the Berry College grounds. We’ll head north for approximately 1.5 miles before turning around, with several planned stops along the way for Allison to share her insights, stories, and historical perspective on the Martha Berry grounds. The pace will be conversational and welcoming for all, offering time to learn, connect, and enjoy the scenery together.
